To investigate research questions at an internationally competitive level, researchers need access to appropriate data. In 2023 the Verein für Socialpolitik set up a committee to work towards improved research data access.
The committee surveyed researchers' needs and prepared statements on needs and recommendations for solutions. Until the end of 2024, the committee contributed actively to the discussion of the Research Data Act planned by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Due to the relevance of this topic for research the group extends its activities under the new name "Committee for Research Data of the Verein für Socialpolitik" chaired by Regina T. Riphahn until the end of 2026.
